It’s that time of year where in many areas a snow day (or several) are unavoidable.  While in some areas, the snow is expected and everywhere continues to function business as usual. Then there are other areas where even though there is at least one good snowstorm a year, the city still cannot function and you are stuck in the house. Just the thought of snow brings on the question, “what will I do?” Nothing will be open and you will have to come up with a plan to keep busy and not go stir crazy. We have a few ideas of what you can do to pass the day.

Go outside.

For those with kids, going outside is both a no-brainer and in many situations a must. Though it’s cold outside, most kids can't resist going out and enjoying the snow. For those who don’t see snow that often, kids will want to engage in all popular snow activities such as:

• Building a snowman
• Sledding
• Making snow angels
• Gathering snow for snow cones
• Snowball fight

All these activities are bound to wear them out, which is perfect for parents to have some quiet time as the kids nap.

Clean the house.

If springtime came and went before you had the time to “spring clean” a snow day is the perfect time to get caught up. With the holidays so close, it’s a great opportunity to make room for the gifts that will be received.  You also have the opportunity to make someone’s holiday brighter by donating clothes, shoes, and other items to those in need.

Binge on movies.

Start a fire, make some popcorn, and find a comfy spot on the couch. All your favorite Christmas movies are likely to be on television to get you in the mood for the holidays. You can also take advantage of the movies and shows on streaming providers such as Netflix and Hulu.

Cook/Bake.

If you can’t remember grandma’s chili recipe by heart, pull out the cookbook or pull up a recipe online. After shoveling the driveway or boxing up old clothes, some comfort food is just what you need. The only thing better is having a homemade dessert ready to follow.

Snow Day Gifts

Some dread the snow, while others look forward to it each year. There is a lot that can be done to make the best of the day. Whether it’s crafting or curling up with coffee and good book, it is the perfect opportunity to enjoy time with family or enjoy some relaxing  “me time.” Finally it’s Christmas time – celebrate by gifting people.
