The changing of the weather usually brings about feelings that you have to stay inside. However there are several fun activities to engage in during the winter. Many of these activities can be done with friends and family. They also can be done alone if you are in need of some “me” time. Getting out will help to keep your active and make you feel better. Further, it can be less costly than sitting inside all day watching television. Though it’s cold, a few extra layers and winter accessories can help you feel comfortable enough to be outdoors for a bit of time. Some activities that are perfect for the winter weather include the following:

Take the family ice-skating. Some areas may have indoor skating rinks while others will have them outdoors. Learning to ice skate may take some time, but the process will be a lot of fun and it is a great way to be active.

Plan a picnic. If weather permits, pack some sandwiches and snacks and head out for a picnic. This is a great activity for the whole family, a lunch date with your significant other, or some relaxing time alone.

Winter camping. Camping in the winter will take some planning to ensure that you have everything needed to stay warm and safe. A RV or camper is ideal for the winter season, but in many cases an insulated sleeping bag will work just as well. There are a variety of settings to choose from including a lake, the mountains, or the beach.

Photography. There are many places where the scenery is breathtaking during the winter. You can decide whether you want to stay local and find some great places to take photographs or go on a road trip to see a different place.

Backyard activities. If you prefer to stay at home, there are still plenty of things that you and the family can do. The kids will have a lot of fun completing a scavenger hunt or you can set up an obstacle course for them. Something as simple as sitting on the front porch with a blanket, book and hot tea is a great way to enjoy nature.

Winter activities can be just as enjoyable as things done in summer. It just takes a little pre-planning and motivation. Brainstorm some ideas with the family and start planning your fun activities.
